Health Department Shows Off New Traps

WITH CONCERNS ABOUT THE ZIKA VIRUS HEADING INTO THE SUMMER MONTHS, THE DOUGLAS COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT SHOWED OFF SOME NEW MOSQUITO TRAPS TODAY. THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT HAS TRAPPED MOSQUITOES FOR THE PAST DECADE TO TACKLE THE WEST NILE VIRUS. BUT STARTING THIS YEAR, IT WILL TEST TO SEE WHETHER LOCAL MOSQUITOES CARRY ZIKA. DESPITE THE CONSTANT HEADLINES, THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT TELLS US FOLKS SHOULD NOT BE TOO CONCERNED. “MOST PEOPLE PROBABLY ARE INFECTED, AS I UNDERSTAND, BUT WITH THE VIRUS HAVE NO SYMPTOMS. SO YOU COULD BE A CARRIER OF THE VIRUS AND NOT KNOW IT.” AS ALWAYS — THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDS YOU TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT YOURSELF. SOME TIPS INCLUDE WEARING MOSQUITO REPELLANT — AND LOOSE CLOTHES. IT’S ALSO IMPORTANT TO POINT OUT, DIFFERENT SPECIES OF MOSQUITOES ARE OUT AT DIFFERENT TIMES OF DAY.
